Toys to Life - Scott The Woz

Stott takes a look at the Toys to Life genre of gaming. Gaming companies will always look for ways to get more money out of players. Microtransactions are the most common way, but in 2011, Activision gave birth to a new franchise involving Spyro, Skylanders, a series of games whose playable characters are the figurines you have to purchase separately at your nearest supermarket. Or Toys R Us. Getting all the characters can cost you fortune! But it did so good that Disney and LEGO jumped in, though LEGO did it better by using actual LEGO minifigs, REAL toys you can play with instead of static figurines. But it all reached an end in 2016 with Skylanders Imaginators. That's right, Skylanders started and then ended the genre... until Starlink came along in 2018, which flopped and never recovered.
