Sonic races across Green Hill, avoiding obstacles and getting enough rings to enter a special stage. At the end of the third stage, he faces Dr. Robotnik who has imprisoned all his friends. Sonic defeats the evil scientist and begins the quest of freeing any animal in captivity. It's the beginning of Sonic the Hedgehog, the game that allowed SEGA to go toe-to-toe with Nintendo.
